The Best Way to Travel on a Budget

June 9, 2009
Filed under: fiji travel — admin @ 5:05 am

Well you won’t be traveling to Monaco and staying at a five star resort on a budget, will you? Maybe so!  Mostly, traveling on a budget means finding the cheapest price for the experience you want.

When traveling on a budget it’s best to keep in mind the following points:

1. Travel in the off-peak seasons. You can save up to as much as fifty per cent off air flights and accommodation costs if you plan to travel in low season times.

2. Stay away from popular tourist spots (unless they are on your ‘must-see’ list). If you can go off the beaten track with your destinations, things can be cheaper to see and do and your cultural experiences will be richer.

3. Try camping. Not only is it the cheapest form of accommodation it’s a great way to get up close and personal to nature. It’s the best way to see National Parks and Heritage listed areas.

4. Look for special travel offers (or packages). But make sure you check everything that they include – and don’t include.

5. Invest in a travel pass where you are able. Most developed countries have a rail or bus transport system where you can obtain day, week or monthly passes that will get you around cheaply.

6. Get a work permit if you aim to gain employment while traveling overseas. Working can help subsidize places that aren’t so cheap, such as Europe and Australia.

7. Look for good exchange rates on the dollar. This may help you decide which country to travel to.

8. Think about shortening your visit to destinations that are expensive and increasing your length of stay in cheaper places.

9. Where possible use your credit card. The exchange rate is better.

10. When staying in a hotel, avoid paying for ‘extras’. Don’t touch anything from the honor bar. Don’t watch the in-house movies and don’t use the hotel phone. And try not to use room service too much!

On the world scene there are some great places to travel on a budget for under thirty dollars a day. In Asia you can try India, Laos, China, Cambodia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Thailand, Sumatra and Burma. In Central and South America you can visit El Salvador, Bolivia and Ecuador. If you are after a budget experience in the Pacific, try Fiji or New Zealand. Over in Africa there are some great budget destinations such as Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Malawi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Ghana. Don’t forget the Middle East where places like Iran, Syria and Turkey provide excellent value for money and wonderful experiences for the budget traveler.

There is no ‘best place’ to travel on a budget. Just be prepared to look around, avoid the pitfalls of unwanted costs in package deals or hotel bookings. If you want to travel and your budget doesn’t meet your expectations, be flexible and see if there is somewhere cheaper you might like to experience. You could be pleasantly surprised with your stay in India or Iran, when you thought you wanted to go to Tahiti.

Survivor: Fiji – This Season’s Smartest Moments, Part One

Filed under: fiji story — admin @ 5:05 am

Looking back at Survivor: Fiji, there were many things that stood out from the previous seasons. While there were many stupid moments showcased on the show, there were also many smart moments that became most memorable to the viewers.

Survivor: Fiji actually had many strong players that brought their distinct strategy to the reality competition. Among the standouts were Yau-Man Chan, Michelle Yi, Cassandra Franklin, Earl Cole, and Dre “Dreamz” Herd just to name a few.

For Yau-Man Chan, his smartest move was opening the crate. In this incident, he assessed the configuration of the crate, intentionally dropping the crate on its weakest point. By doing so, he proved that brains could be more powerful than brawns.

Michelle Yi also had her share of smart moments. Despite being an underdog, she was able to bring fire to her team with the use of her eyeglasses, which made an impact on the rest of the team, as well as on host Jeff Probst. In addition, she proved that even with her petite frame, she was tough in every challenge.

Cassandra Franklin wasn’t the most amiable for the fans of Survivor but she certainly stunned viewers when she won the reward challenge. As part of her strategy, she kept a low profile and claimed that she “listened to everyone”

in order to get better chances of winning the game. This was significantly advantageous in winning the challenge that centered on how well the contestants knew each other, in which she got all questions correct.

Another low-key player was Earl Cole. Obviously, his under-the-radar strategy enabled him to become the winner of Survivor.

Last but not the least, Dre “Dreamz” Herd’s flip. Although he was considered as a backstabbing player, he strategically formed alliances while betraying them as well. Unfortunately, his flip did not earn him the support of the jury.

June 1, 2009

You’re one of those who are looking forward to a grand vacation, perhaps during the summer, and so you opted to rent a Caribbean boat charter. It can be a luxury yacht charter, sailboat charter, or a Caribbean catamaran charter-it doesn’t really matter. What matters to you is that you can visit as many islands as possible. The Caribbean will never be what it is today without them. But where should you go?

You can bring your Caribbean yacht charters in any of these fabulous islands:

Bahamas. There are over a hundred islands that you can choose from when you’re in the Bahamas, so you can definitely make the most out of your Caribbean yacht charter. You can bring it to Cable Beach and Paradise Island, where there are plenty of private villas, casinos, and, of course, docks. When you want to scuba dive, you can then have your yacht Charter Caribbean to Andros, Abaco, and Inagua. Other great choices in the Bahamas include Rum Cay, Cat Island, Bimini, and Berry Islands.

Cayman Islands. There are actually three islands that make up this very small nation in the Caribbean. The biggest one-and the most industrialised of the three-is called Grand Cayman. Your luxury charter yachts can dock in one of its ports, and you can roam the area for a day. There are a lot of shopping centers, casinos, and bargain markets. Most of the expensive or posh hotels are found here. However, if you want some privacy, or you are on a tight budget, you can avail of any of the sailboat charters and bring it to either Cayman Brac or Little Cayman. Regardless of what your choice, though, you are guaranteed of one of the most thrilling scuba diving experiences in your life.

British Virgin Islands. You may wonder how this island nation is able to get its name. It is mainly composed of islets that are stunningly beautiful-it’s like they have been unexplored and are just waiting for someone to take advantage of their natural resources. The British Virgin Islands is considered to be the sailing capital in the world. Thus, most of the charter yachts Caribbean will always include a tour in BVI. This also means that you have a wide array of choices for your water transport. You can rent yacht charters BVI or a luxury catamaran. There are also affordable Carribean yacht charters where you may have to do most of the work, including cooking. The most important thing is that you can sail your BVI yacht charter into the beautiful and serene waters and choose the island that can offer you with the most splendid vacation time or privacy.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It seems like urbanisation has never reached any of the islands, but that’s what makes them very unique. There are not a lot of Grenadines yacht charters that can take you directly there, simply because it’s not really an easy travel. But once you do, you can immerse yourself into its waters or into the laidback lifestyle of its people, whilst leaving your Carribean yacht charter in its port.
